Project
Title:
EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, MENTORING AND TRAINING FOR DISABLED PEOPLE
ProjectID:
EODPE
Description:
The project EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, MENTORING AND TRAINING FOR DISABLED PEOPLE AND EMPLOYERS. The project focuses on students and graduates with physical and sensory disabilities, organizations of disabled people, their employers, as well as employers' organizations, intermediaries and policy makers.
It is established with the aim of improving the professional skills and abilities of last year disabled students, as well as of providing them with the opportunity of work practice a chance, that disabled students have less than their peers without disabilities. The project is financially supported by Leonardo da Vinci Programme of the European Commission.
The main goals:
>> Contribution to the provision of a possibility for professional realization of disabled graduates ;
>> The underlying idea of the mentoring process is to convert gained knowledge into skills so that after the completion of the training the participants will be able to put into practice things that have been learnt
The main issue for the general repudiation and ignoring the group of these people is influenced to a great extent by the lack of information. That is the reason why the next aspect of targeting is to establish an EMPLOYERS NETWORK, meant to unite all employers, interested in employing disabled people and aiming at the use and exchange of experience and best practice examples in that field .
Results and effect:
During the project a 6-month mentoring program for people with disabilities was carried-out in each participating country. After the end of the program the majority of the mentees were employed in non-participating in the mentoring-scheme companies.
Employers network in the field of disability with regularly increasing number of members was established.
Handbooks with guidance and useful information , concerning mentoring programs were created both for employers and people with disabilities. They were published on paper-based version, Braile version for visually impaired, CD-ROM, sign language interpretation and online version which is available on the official website.
This project has been selected as a Best practice in Europe within the framework of Leonardo da Vinci programme of the EC, and it was awarded with Quality Certificate by the Ministry of Labour and Social Politics and Ministry of Education of Bulgaria.
