Description:
The overall aim of the ACERISH project is to increase the levels of independence and social integration of disabled people across Europe by encouraging standardised and recognised systems of support and accreditation for disabled people, and disabled people’s practitioners.
The project aims to have influence on key decision makers in European countries to raise the bar in all aspects of life for disabled people and those who work with disabled people. Each partner in the project will actively seek to promote positive change for disabled people in their country, using the European-wide research to direct the nature of the changes that should be proposed and implemented.
It is hoped that disabled people’s services will be further advanced and become more accessible as a result of the project, and that the most positive aspects of disabled people’s services in each partner’s countries can be implemented into the systems of countries that are not as efficient in certain areas.
Parallel to the research into disability, ACERISH also hopes to raise awareness of social, cultural and economic issues affecting disabled people in Europe, and aims to encourage the removal of barriers that might prevent disabled people from integrating into society.
As well as encouraging improved practices for disabled people within each individual country, ACERISH hopes to influence a greater standardisation of disabled people’s services and structures across the continent, making it easier for disabled people and disabled people’s practitioners to move from one country to another and fit into the systems in place.
To fully achieve all the goals of ACERISH will take many years, but this innovative project hopes to make as large a contribution as possible to the ultimate target of changing attitudes, systems, procedures and legislation for the better of disabled people in Europe.
