Il Progetto DEAL (Deaf people in Europe Acquiring Languages through E-Learning ) nasce da un preciso presupposto: le tecnologie informatiche possono essere uno strumento molto importante nella formazione dei sordi. Questo per due ragioni fondamentali: le tecnologie informatiche utilizzano soprattutto la vista, cioè il canale integro delle persone sorde; le tecnologie informatiche offrono alle persone sorde delle nuove e importanti risorse di comunicazione. Insieme ai partner (l'Istituto Statale dei Sordi di Roma (capofila), l'Università di Klagenfurt, l'Università di Barcellona, la Fundaciò Illescat, l'ISTC-CNR e l'ISISS Magarotto), hanno collaborato al progetto la Regione Lazio (Dipartimento Sociale Direzione Regionale Istruzione) e la Provincia di Roma (Assessorato alle Politiche Sociali della Scuola), per valorizzare e diffondere i risultati.L’obiettivo del progetto è stata la creazione di strumenti utili per facilitare l’apprendimento delle lingue straniere da parte degli studenti sordi, in particolare nella prospettiva della formazione professionale.Il principale di questi strumenti è stata una piattaforma e-learning sviluppata proprio per gli studenti sordi che ha permesso di utilizzare sistematicamente nella comunicazione didattica le lingue dei segni nazionali.Altri strumenti essenziali sono stati i materiali didattici costruiti per essere utilizzati con la piattaforma. Questi materiali hanno riguardato l’insegnamento/apprendimento dell’italiano, dello spagnolo e del tedesco utili nella comunicazione aziendale. I materiali didattici hanno avuto due caratteristiche di fondo: la strutturazione visiva dei contenuti; l’attenzione agli aspetti linguistici più difficili per le persone sorde.Il progetto DEAL ha inteso pertanto contribuire ad eliminare definitivamente le limitazioni delle possibilità d’istruzione, di formazione professionale e di accesso al mondo del lavoro dei cittadini sordi.
